hey i'm a michigan native but went to college/learned to rock climb out in arizona.  I've been back in michigan since october and just moved to east lansing and heard about grand ledge.  i've got everything i need to climb, rope and rack etc. only i'm short on climbing partners at the moment.  is it the type of place i can go and throw up a rope and share belays with passers by or are there just not that many people there?  what is the bouldering scene like? any info would be great.

Most of the people that climb at Grand Ledge are very friendly and willing to climb and share ropes. Most weekend days there are several people around but not always. It would be nice to know that someone would be there if you are going to spend the gas money to get there.  Not many people on this site make replies.

The bouldering @ the park is better than most of the ropes.  There are tons of V0 - V2, a few great V3's, a little short on 4's, and awesome V5's and V6's and a handful, 12 or so, harder problems.  you need to watch others for the bouldering info as that is not really published anywhere.   look for the the trick(V3), buns machine gun (V5), ballerina low (V5), climb or die (V6) and the tooth...the toughest V1 around.  Its the triangle rock at the "bleachers" starting w/ a sit start traversing right on the lip into the mantle.

I am brand new to climbing in Michigan, but it sounds like the bouldering in GL is right up my alley. I know that there is a guidebook for the routes but from what I've heard, the bouldering is pretty unpublished. Is there anywhere I can get a map or some sort of guide for bouldering?
